Intro to Acting for Kids

The "Just for Fun" Drama Camp

Our Intro to Acting Camp is the ultimate "no-pressure" zone for kids ages 5 to 12 who are curious about the stage but aren't sure where to start. We’ve designed this experience specifically for beginners who want to explore their imagination without the fear of feeling judged or embarrassed.

In this camp, there are no "wrong" moves—only big ideas and lots of laughter!

What to Expect

We focus on the joy of acting out through high-energy play and collaborative storytelling. Your camper will:

  • The Power of Play: Dive into hilarious improv games that build confidence and quick thinking.

  • Character Creation: Learn how to use your voice, face, and body to transform into someone (or something!) entirely new.

  • Storytelling Basics: Work with friends to act out short skits, folk tales, and original "mini-plays."

  • Confidence Boosters: Practice speaking clearly and moving with purpose in a space where every "mistake" is just a new way to have fun.

Where kids can be silly, be bold, and be themselves.

Film & Acting: From Script to Screen
This camp bridges the gap between the person in front of the lens and the crew behind it. From the first "table read" to the final "cut," campers will experience the high-energy, collaborative world of a working film set. Campers will rotate through essential roles to learn the full language of cinema:

  • Actor’s Craft: Master the nuances of acting for the camera (which is very different from the stage!). Kids will practice "hitting their marks," reacting to off-screen cues, and the art of the film audition.

  • Writer’s Room: Experience a professional table reading where the script comes to life for the first time. Campers learn how to analyze a scene and prepare for rehearsals.

  • Director’s Chair: Take command! Students learn how to communicate a vision to actors and decide where the camera should go to tell the best story.

  • Production Crew: Get hands-on with the "magic" of filmmaking. We’ll explore cinematography, lighting techniques, and sound to ensure our short film looks and sounds like the real deal.

Stage Acting: Character, Dialogue, and Dramatic Presence

This camp is for the storyteller who loves to inhabit a character. We go beyond "playing pretend" to teach the foundational skills of live theatre.

  • The Actor’s Instrument: Exercises in vocal projection, diction, and physical theater to ensure every movement and word reaches the back row.

  • Scene Study: Campers dive into scripts, learning how to analyze a character’s "objective" and "obstacles."

  • Improvisation: Building quick thinking and confidence through games that teach actors to trust their instincts.

  • The Ensemble: Learning the vital art of listening and reacting to scene partners.

Musical Theatre: The "Triple Threat" (Singing, Dancing, Acting)

For the kid who can’t stop humming show tunes! This high-energy camp combines vocal technique with choreographed movement to create a true Broadway experience.

  • Vocal Performance: how to tell a story through song, focusing on pitch, rhythm, and "acting the lyrics."

  • Broadway Dance: foundational musical theatre choreography that emphasizes storytelling through movement.

  • Audition Prep: practice the "16-bar cut" and learn how to walk into a professional audition room with confidence.

  • The Big Finale: Rehearsing a high-impact ensemble number that blends harmony and movement.

Acting

Whether your child wants to explore the art of dramatic cinema through storytelling on stage or film, or dance their way through a show-stopping chorus number, we have the perfect stage for them! We are offering two distinct tracks to help every performer find their calling.

Art : Unleash the masterpiece within!

Our Artist’s Studio Camp is a vibrant, hands-on journey through the world of fine art. This isn't a "color within the lines, cut and paste" art class. It’s a high-energy exploration of color, texture, and technique. Campers will dive into a different medium every day, discovering their unique style in a supportive, no-pressure environment.

A Little Bit of Everything

From the bold strokes of a paintbrush to the tactile fun of clay, we provide a "tasting menu" of artistic styles:

  • Master the Mediums: Get hands-on with a professional kit of tools, including acrylics, watercolors, pastels, markers, and colored pencils.

  • 3D Creation: We step off the canvas and into the third dimension with sculpting and paper engineering.

  • Styles & Schools: Campers won't just draw; they'll explore the "why" behind the art. We’ll experiment with Abstract (emotions and shapes), Realism (drawing what we see), and Expressionism (bold colors and feelings).

  • Themed Adventures: Each day features a new inspiration—from nature and animals to futuristic cities—ensuring there’s always a fresh spark for the imagination.

  • We believe art should be accessible and exciting for everyone. Our instruction is tailored to be age-appropriate, ensuring every camper leaves with a project they are proud of.

Step into the spotlight and master the styles that define the Golden Age of Broadway! To be a true triple threat, you need to move with grace, character, and precision. This class is designed specifically for young actors who want to feel confident when the choreographer says, "Let’s see you partner!"

Why This Matters for Your Next Audition: This isn't just a dance class; it's an acting-through-movement intensive. You’ll build:

  • Stage Presence: Learn how to hold your frame and command the space.

  • Partnering Skills: The ability to lead or follow with a castmate is a "must-have" on your resume.

  • Rhythmic Accuracy: Sharpen your ear for the musical timing that directors look for.

Drums

Let’s Make Some Noise!

Is your house currently vibrating because your child uses the dining table as a snare drum? It’s time to channel that energy into some serious skill. Whether they want to play in a rock band or just master a solid groove, this week long camp provides the foundation every young drummer needs. We don't just stick to one instrument. Our curriculum rotates through three essential drumming styles to keep things fresh and build well-rounded musicians:

  • The Full Drum Kit: Master the "heartbeat" of modern music. Students learn coordination between all four limbs, basic rock/pop beats, and essential fills.

  • Electronic Drums: Explore the world of digital percussion! We use e-kits to teach rhythm precision, different sound profiles, and how to play along with their favorite tracks.

  • Hand Drums & Percussion: Building a "feel" for the beat. We dive into world rhythms using djembe and cajon to improve timing and hand technique.

Students can continue through the summer. Instructors will continue to teach new skills based on each students learning curve. Drum sticks supplied.
